Complete set of five Shan esoteric Buddhist images. These consist of a Buddha, three monks and a chedi. These are covered with traditional gold and back lacquer and the bodies are made from compressed powdered herbs or temple incense ash. They have a quirky abstract quality to them, their facelessness represents that the individual is inconsequential but has the potential for becoming a Buddha, on the bottom are the eight Burmese zodiac symbols based on the days of the week. For some rea...

Large circa Jin Cizhou type bowl with dark olive colored “teadust” glaze, there is a strong possibility that this was fired at the Yaozhou kiln. There is some soil accretion on the side but this can cleaned off, there was on small chip and hairline crack but I stabilized the crack where you can hardly notice and filled the chip and touched up with gold leaf noted in last enlargement. D: 21.8cm/8.6in and H: 7.5cm/3in

Rare collection (5 pieces) of pottery tobacco pipes used by the Rau/Brau people. These were acquired in Laos quite a few years. These were fired at the Yixing Kilns, in Jiangsu Province- the same place that made opium pipe bowls. These would date from late 19th century to first half 20th century- the ones with reddish clay being the oldest. They have some small chips consistent with old tribal pieces. As far as I know these pipes were unique to the Brau, and would today be consid...

Tang to possibly Five Dynasties, stoneware jar with light olive green glaze and reddish clay body. The foot is rimless and concave. One of a kind, stoneware amphora with brown and black inner glaze, circa 11th century Jin Dynasty. This piece had a couple of firing chips on the mouth which I filled and simply covered with gold leaf and lacquer, a museum quality perspex stand is included. Item H: 12.8cm/5in and D: 6.8cm/2.6in.
