Very rare pair of Shang/Western Zhou (2070-771 BCE) proto celadon saucers from a Zhejiang Kiln. These are the earliest Chinese known glazed ceramics and were the forerunner to the Yue and Longquan. Fine intricate four paneled, handwoven bed cover made with handspun natural local, and indigo dyed cotton from the Ha/Meifu dialect speaking Li people, Hainan Island. Intricate shoulder cloth (hti paun) from the Mro Arang, Khami subgroup Rakhine State, Myanmar. Good condition, no holes or tears (could use a wash). Fascinating geometrical weft embroidered pattern- no two bands of patterns are exactly the same. It is woven in one continuous piece. Circa 1950- all hand spun threads. Rare Qing Shekwan/Shiwan ware combination ink stone brushwasher. The grinding surface is worn smooth from use, there is a green and amber glaze on the rim and has a wide, splayed solid foot- quite unusual. Excellent condition with no damage (just ink stains). Ensemble of 4 Lanna Thai Buddhist reading implements (analogous to a Yad Torah Pointer). Used to mark pages and point out words while reciting a sutra from a Buddhist manuscript, i.e. individual pages sandwiched between two small wooden planks. Fine old “daunlang khwelan” serving tray from the Shan State, Myanmar (most likely Inle Lake). Made circa 1920 – 1950 and signed on the bottom. Ikat sarong from the upland Karen (Pwo or Sgaw) ethnic group in Northern Thailand. This is woven from all handspun cotton thread and natural dyes. Women’s skirt from the Bahnar (Ba Na) ethnic group from the Central Highlands of Vietnam, woven from fine handspun cotton using all natural dyes. The weaving is very intricate and refined, note the use of narrow warp ikat bands throughout this piece. This is one single panel which would have used to make three other skirts. Lovely serpentine carving of crabs in a fisherman’s net and basket. This was made in the 80’s for export, from outlets like the China Friendship and Products stores. This was made in Guangdong wood carving style, which is famous for its intricate depictions of sea life. This is made from a single stone and comes with a custom wire inlaid wood stand. Rare statue of a woman and child standing from Sichuan, Han Dynasty. Very poignant image of a small child leaning into its mother. The image though quite simple is very emotive capturing the feeling affection between them. There may some repair behind the head as the clay has a different color and texture but it is the same hardness and color when I scratch it, so in all honesty it is difficult to tell, for sure either way. The Khumi are the found in Bangladesh, Chittagong Hills and Chin/Rakhine states, Myanmar. This piece is in excellent condition with all hand spun and natural red and indigo dyes, circa 1970 (more or less). L: 86cm/33.8ijn (x2) and W: 36cm/14.1in.
