Very rare antique lacquer box from the Southern Shan States circa late 19th CE to early 20th CE. This a complete set (which is rare in itself these days). The pattern though simple is exquisitely detailed. I have not seen this pattern documented anywhere and I have a few of this type all acquired in China in Yunnan, so I am wondering if it is possible it was made by the ethnic Shan (Daizu) living there. Some craquelure on the surface, as is expected and few minor chips at the bot...

Rare and unusual 3 paneled tufted blanket from the Rawang ethnic group in the Kachin State, Burma. The field is woven from bast fiber (possibly hemp), the reddish head ends have an animal hair weft, either goat or dog. There are a few areas that have a bright colored commercial yarn but other then that all natural dyes. In the red field there are some bits of missing weft noted in enlargements. This piece is circa 1950 (plus or minus), definitely old an old piece. The Rawang are an u...

Glass charm emulating white nephrite Jade inscribed with delicate Arabic writing on both sides, which I assume to be verses from the Koran. This set is in silver with a copper loop to hold on a chord. I bought this in Hong Kong so original provenance is unknown- possibly from the Xinjiang, Turkic Uyghur speaking area. Jade was very popular during the Mughal period in India and I would date this piece circa 19th century. Excellent condition- no chips or cracks. L 5.3cm/2.1in and W...

Pictorial men’s body cloth from the Naga, in Burma. I acquired this in Mae Sai, along the Thai/Burmese border in the late 90’s. All handspun cotton and mostly natural dyes- the embroidery may be a later add on, the blanket itself is supple and has had some use. This piece was probably made for the tourist market back then but with creative typical Naga designs. There are a few weak areas in the weave but no holes or tears. L: 170cm/66in and W: 107cm/42in.

Lao blanket, acquired in the Northern most province of Phongsaly, 2002, from a small local market. I was told it was Akha but am really not sure as I have no references on textiles from this group. This all hand woven with handspun thread except for the turquoise and possibly red the dyes are natural. L 180cm/70in and 100cm/39.5in. Nice heavy weave no damage.

Fine and rare Ming Dynasty, emulating white Jade, belt fastener made of glass. There are a few tiny chips but they are too small to photograph. Glass artifacts in good condition are more difficult to find than Jade given its fragility. In the center there is a “Shou”-Chinese longevity character, surrounded by cloud scrolls and a meander pattern on the perimeter. L: 6cm/2.3in and W: 4.6cm/1.8in. Large Liao Dynasty, dark amber glazed Gangwa ware jar from the Chifeng Kiln, Inner Mongolia. The Liao were a non Han culture that ruled in Manchuria and parts of Mongolia 907-1125 CE. This shape is fairly unique to Liao ceramics as it seeks to emulate Turkic West Asian metal work drinking vessels. There is fritting on the edge of the shoulder and mouthrim (clearly visible in enlargements) but otherwise in good condition with no breakage or cracks. H: 27cm/10.6in and D: 18.5...
