One of kind, single supplementary weft embroidered panel, L: 4.63m/14.2ft and W: 36.5cm/13.8in, from the Tujia ethnic group in Guizhou, Southwest China. Its function is a bit of mystery so it being a sling wrap around baby carrier is my best guess. Originally I thought it might be a traditional wedding blanket that would be cut and sewn with three panels together but there is no border pattern woven into this piece as is typical...

Rare early 20th century Bai minority lacquered box constructed from leather. I purchased this piece in a Bai minority, weekly market in Yunnan near Dali around 2002. I have found many references to Bai lacquer but never any pictures or other documentation other than they grow the tree from which lacquer was made. One can assume this craft is no longer being done with the availability of cheap plastic items as well as the migration of artisans to better paying jobs in the city...

Rare complete lacquer tobacco box with trays from the Karen hilltribe ethnic group Northern Thailand. Next to nothing has written about this craft amongst the Karen people although they are known for their water tight baskets using lacquer to seal the weave. H: 9.5cm/3.8in and D: 8.6cm/3.3in.

Old (100 years or more) leather belt from Tibet with 5 damascened silver patterns on iron fittings with complete buckle. There is some rust on the metal bits, maybe some Silvo polish on them will bring some of the shine back to the silver. All the pieces seem to be here except for a scabbard attachment. Total L: 118cm/46.5in. I bought this the Barkor bazaar in front of the Jokang in Lhasa almost 20 years ago; the leather is rough but serviceable.

Exquisite pair of late circa late 19th-early 20th CE loom weft supports carved into the shape of lotus buds with beautiful classic Khmer floral scroll motif and remnants of original red and black lacquer. I bought these in the Russian Market about 14 years ago in Phnom Pehn; a pair of equal quality is housed in the National Museum there. Each is carved from a single piece of wood. They are in very good condition with minor checks and knocks as to be expected from antique wooden implements...

Ensemble of six Qing Dynasty red agate and carnelian pieces carved into babies, bats and a “foo” dog face. Originally these were meant to be sewn on clothing- possibly a woman's cap, now they are strung on a macraméd faux silk chord. tThe pieces tend to hang too close together in the center or may be worn as a choker- a possible remedy might be to insert a wire into the chord to stiffen it up a bit...

Rare antique silk Cambodian ikat lower garment. H: 90cm/35.5in L: 2.1m/7ft10in. with a twill weave; unique among Southeast Asian textiles. This skill died out during the reign of the Khmer Rouge and has not yet recovered the skills and technique to make a textile of this quality. The size of this piece indicates it would have been worn by an upper class family much like a pantaloon with center being passed through the legs and tucked into the waist...

Good circa 19th CE bronze Buddha from the Shan people in Burma. I found this in Mae Sai, along the Thai/Burmese border in 1998. The style is rather quirky but the face is typically Shan with Burmese gold and black lacquer. There are a few chips to the lacquer otherwise perfect condition. H: 14.7cm/5.9in and W: 5.7cm/2.3in.

Good Han Dynasty, 206BCE-220CE, terra cotta hen with trances of original lead green glaze on lower half. An excellent example of the Impressionistic style by early Chinese potters. H: 14cm/5.5in and L: 11cm/4.2in.

Genuine antique Shan lacquer box circa late 19thCE. Most Burmese lacquer being offered on the internet purported to be antique are vintage at best and new at worst. I acquired this in Yunnan, China along the Burmese border but of Shan (nationality in China). Although there is some damage the craftsmanship is exquisite which is why I put a grain of sand in a couple of the images to put the work into perspective...

Unusual “pile” of old glass cylinder beads picked up in Mae Sot, Thailand along the Burmese border about 6 years ago and are from Burma. These were meant for Victorian Era, British colonials who most likely used them for beaded curtains. I assuming these are of Bohemian, Czech (possibly Japanese) manufacture but am certain that they are old- circa late 19th/early 20th century. There are 20 strands with around 20 8cm beads per strand and total length of 1.75cm/5ft9in ea, so about 400 beads...

This is an exceptionally rare Shan (aka Dai, Tai) altar figure carved from very heavy and tough iron wood, circa 19th CE. As with almost all the ethnic groups from this region in Southeast Asia, local animist and ancestor traditions coexist or are integrated with the predominantly Buddhist religion. This piece came from the Shan State, Burma and is H: 14.7cm5.8in.

60 glass shards excavated in Afghanistan that have been knapped and drilled into pendants/beads. Many have an intense opalescent (dichroic?) patina. They are quite thin and date to around the 500 CE, possibly late Roman. There are 60 pieces in total and may be used in contemporary jewelry settings. Scale in enlargement is metric.
