Exceptionally fine early 20th century antique ikat sarong from the tiny island of Savu, Indonesia. The weave is a bit course indicating this was made from local native cotton, rather than handspun imported material. This piece is in perfect condition with 6 narrow patterned bands of floating weft. All dyes are organic also note in last enlargement that the narrow blue and white bands are ikat dyed in groupings of only four strands...

Rare antique silk Cambodian ikat lower garment. H: 90cm/35.5in L: 2.1m/7ft10in. with a twill weave; unique among Southeast Asian textiles. This skill died out during the reign of the Khmer Rouge and has not yet recovered the skills and technique to make a textile of this quality. The size of this piece indicates it would have been worn by an upper class family much like a pantaloon with center being passed through the legs and tucked into the waist...

Good circa 19th CE bronze Buddha from the Shan people in Burma. I found this in Mae Sai, along the Thai/Burmese border in 1998. The style is rather quirky but the face is typically Shan with Burmese gold and black lacquer. There are a few chips to the lacquer otherwise perfect condition. H: 14.7cm/5.9in and W: 5.7cm/2.3in.

Terra Cotta Buddha head and torso from Tov Aimag, Northern Mongolia. This region had an abundance Yellow Hat sect Tibetan temples, most of which were demolished when it became the world’s second Communist country in 1924. Soon after a mass Soviet style pogrom of the Buddhist monastic order was carried out. Taking a page from Uncle Joe's book the Chinese did much the same to the monasteries in Tibet during the Cultural Revolution...

Genuine antique Shan lacquer box circa late 19thCE. Most Burmese lacquer being offered on the internet purported to be antique are vintage at best and new at worst. I acquired this in Yunnan, China along the Burmese border but of Shan (nationality in China). Although there is some damage the craftsmanship is exquisite which is why I put a grain of sand in a couple of the images to put the work into perspective...

Unusual “pile” of old glass cylinder beads picked up in Mae Sot, Thailand along the Burmese border about 6 years ago and are from Burma. These were meant for Victorian Era, British colonials who most likely used them for beaded curtains. I assuming these are of Bohemian, Czech (possibly Japanese) manufacture but am certain that they are old- circa late 19th/early 20th century. There are 20 strands with around 20 8cm beads per strand and total length of 1.75cm/5ft9in ea, so about 400 beads...

Exceptionally rare ceremonial men’s “bell” cape (khing ta zhi) from the Sothern Chin ethnic group in Burma- this piece would have been worn during religious and planting festivals; please see last enlargement for a couple of guys wearing them. This piece is constructed of handspun threads being sewn together from two panels. This textile is at least 80 years old, possibly being as early as 1900. The weaving technique on this piece is quite delicate and complicated...

Two chalcedony pendants circa Warring States to Han Dynasty. I have been told by knowledgeable jade collectors these used as curtain weights; please see last enlargement for referenced dating to at least Han Dynasty from Sparkling Splendours: The Taoshi Zhai Collection. There are a couple of inclusions in the smaller white one and some deep staining on the larger one indicating that this was buried with a metallic object for quite sometime. Scale is in enlargement 6...

This is an exceptionally rare Shan (aka Dai, Tai) altar figure carved from very heavy and tough iron wood, circa 19th CE. As with almost all the ethnic groups from this region in Southeast Asia, local animist and ancestor traditions coexist or are integrated with the predominantly Buddhist religion. This piece came from the Shan State, Burma and is H: 14.7cm5.8in.

Exceptionally fine and rare antique Iban pua kumbu with mythical snake “Nabau” pattern. This exquiste and delicate pattern was believed to have a potent power in protecting the village against malevolent spirits. It is in near perfect condition, the only defect being one tiny nick in the selvedge. The center design is woven handspun cotton while the “ara” bands on the side are commercial thread, while all the dyes used are vegetable based. The weaving is extremely fine...

Late 19th to Early 20th century, wood handled adz with hand forged blade. This item was made by the matrilineal Minangkabau people and sourced in the small town of Bukittingi in the highlands of Sumatra in 1989. The handle is well polished through years of use with quite stunning bands of carved decoration on the handle. Condition good the only damage is some “checking” in the wood near the base of the handle. Handle L: 43 cm/17in and blade L: 16.4/6.5cm.

60 glass shards excavated in Afghanistan that have been knapped and drilled into pendants/beads. Many have an intense opalescent (dichroic?) patina. They are quite thin and date to around the 500 CE, possibly late Roman. There are 60 pieces in total and may be used in contemporary jewelry settings. Scale in enlargement is metric.

Quirky glass ring emulating agate. This piece came from China but possibly is a trade object. I acquired this in a lot of other ancient pieces. A conservative dating to this is Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and guarantees it to this period. There is one crack as well as some bubble burst pitting on the surface. Outer D: 2.8cm and inner D: 1.9cm.
