Good small mottled gray nephrite perforated disc, circa Tang Dynasty or earlier. D: 2.4cm/.9in and thickness: 8mm/.22in. Lovely stone- please examine close ups where I have highlighted “tell tale” carving lines with red arrows of a genuine ancient piece. This was probably part of a series of center leftover cuts from a much larger Bi.

Rare early 20th century Bai minority lacquered box constructed from leather. I purchased this piece in a Bai minority, weekly market in Yunnan near Dali around 2002. I have found many references to Bai lacquer but never any pictures or other documentation other than they grow the tree from which lacquer was made. One can assume this craft is no longer being done with the availability of cheap plastic items as well as the migration of artisans to better paying jobs in the city...

Exceptionally rare lacquer box from the Kachin ethnic group, Myanmar- a very old piece circa 100 years old, and one of only three I have ever seen. I acquired this piece about 15 years ago in Pagan. Nothing is documented (that I can find) on Kachin lacquer making although Sylvia Fraser-Lu, probably one of the world’s most well known Western expert on Burmese lacquer, mention’s that the best raw lacquer comes from the Kachin State...

Rare black Lanna lacquer box circa 60 to 80 years old in excellent condition given its age, no repairs or big chunk missing, from Chiang Mai. Genuine old examples of Thai lacquer are quite rare these days as most have been bought up by Thai collectors. H: 8.7cm/3.4in and D: 11cm/4.2in.

Ming yuhuchunping bottle vase with dragon chasing a flaming pearl and waves motif from a Fujian kiln. The mouth rim had a few chips, so I opted to add a silver rim, (if you can’t hide it- decorate it). There are several stress fractures running off the footrim onto the body and one chip in the footrim itself patched with plaster. H: 14.5cm/5.2in and D:10.5/4.2in .

Exceptionally rare bronze Burmese/Shan musician which would have been part of Buddhist “nativity ensemble”. These consist of dancers, devotees and musicians celebrating his birth with the young Buddha forming the focal point of the group. Usually these types of images are quite crude and small being placed inside chedis/stupas as a form of merit making and were never meant to be displayed on a Buddhist altar. This one however would have been displayed in private home or temple...

Old (100 years or more) leather belt from Tibet with 5 damascened silver patterns on iron fittings with complete buckle. There is some rust on the metal bits, maybe some Silvo polish on them will bring some of the shine back to the silver. All the pieces seem to be here except for a scabbard attachment. Total L: 118cm/46.5in. I bought this the Barkor bazaar in front of the Jokang in Lhasa almost 20 years ago; the leather is rough but serviceable.

Fine auspicious 8 sided Qing Dynasty nephrite damper bowl for an opium pipe. Smoking opium from a jade bowl was supposed to enhance one’s longevity and are very rare. There are few chips at the rim of the hole and smoke stained inclusions. Spare a thought for patience and craftsmanship to hollow out a jade stone to achieve such a thin walled piece. D: 5cm/2in and H: 3.5cm/1.3in. Stand incuded.
