Exceptionally rare classic Sukhothai kingdom (1238 CE-1438 CE) stucco head of the Buddha applied on brick. From a Thai perspective Sukhothai represents the foundation of the Thai national identity as well as their Golden Age of Art and Culture. This piece appears to have had an of the period restoration on the face; evidenced by the remnants of the unisha above the forehead. Stucco is not a particularly robust material so repairs and touch ups would have been an ongoing process in any ...click for details

Quirky Khmer style standing Buddha. I bought this in Phnom Penh about 7 years ago although not an authentic of the period piece it does have some age, circa late 19th to early 20th CE. The head broke off revealing a ceramic core and the most of the robe on the left side is missing. There is some mystery to this piece in that I don’t know if it was cast as a proper votive image to be venerated or old copy or souvenir to be flogged to the French colonial residents. Modern Khmer copies ...click for details

Exceptionally rare bronze Burmese/Shan musician which would have been part of Buddha “nativity ensemble”. These consist of dancers, devotees and musicians celebrating his birth with the young Buddha forming the focal point of the ensemble. Usually these types of images are quite crude and small being placed inside chedis/stupas as a form of merit making and were never meant to be displayed on a Buddhist altar. This one however would have been displayed in private home or temple. I purchased ...click for details

Beautiful bronze early Lao Buddha with green patina. Large portion of base is missing, please note last enlargement of damage; this piece was cast with two large cruciform holes at the back of the base which is consistent with Lao images made from the13th to 16th centuries, given the condition of the patina I am dating this piece this period. H: 14.5cm/5.8in and W: 9cm/3.5in (H: with stand 19.cm/7.5in).
