Mysterious bronze handled knife with iron blade from Cambodia. Very quirky “dragon” handled knife with original bronze sheath bindings, this could possibly be a type of early “meed mor” (Thai magic knife), but to be honest I cannot find any references to this design and style although the pommel has an uncanny resemblance to “Knife with Dragon-Headed Handle, Ordos Type, 14th cent” in the Harvard Art Museum- just google this...

Fine Qing Dynasty glass archer’s ring emulating white jade. Glass archer’s rings are much rarer than jade one’s, given the fragility of the material. There are two “fleabite” sized chips noted in second enlargement and scale is noted in metric in the last.

Good old Northern Thai sword (dha). This piece has rattan bindings with a silver pommel. The scabbard and blade match but are not original as the blade is about 10cm shorter than meant for the sword. L: 70cm/27.5in and the blade is 37cm/14.5in. The blade is sharp but a bit rusty. Originally there was circa 1920’s Rama the 8th coin stuck in the pommel, I have found another 1930s coin as a replacement which you can glue in if you want.

Both have silver pommels, rattan bindings and wood handles and scabbards. Fine and rare Dayak sword circa late 19th century. Total L: 66cm/26in, blade L: 38cm/14.9in. The wood handle and scabbard are exquisitely carved and the blade (an old replacement) has a very sharp cutting edge. During my last visit to Sarawak in 2005 I did not see any genuinely antique complete swords for sale. This piece was acquired from an Australian collection last year and I suspect that most heirloom swords are now only in overseas collections...

Very fine niello inlay silver box with a depiction of the Royal Barge on the Chao Phraya River floating past Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn) flanked by apsaras on the lid and burlwood interior. The front reads “To Admiral Sir David Luce with best wishes from Admiral (signed) Chammarnand Layndvla, Bangkok, 5, January 1962”. Possibly given as a diplomatic going away gift, in 1960 Sir David Luce was appointed Commander-in-chief Far East, and was promoted to First Sea Lord 1963...

Sold to the U.S., thanks a bunch!
Exceptionally fine and rare circa early 20th CE, “Dha” from the Tai Yong subgroup in Lamphun, Province Thailand. Aside from a few chips and scrapes on surface (please note the finely plaited bamboo wrapping on the handle under the several layers of lacquer) this piece is in fine condition with a good well honed steel blade. The pommel is capped with silver and the traditional tasseled rope belt on a rubber sleeve was probably replaced around 40 to 50 years ago...

Exceptionally fine Northern Thai/Lanna knife. The bronze handle dates to 18th century or earlier so in the context of Greater Thai history it would be the Ayutthaya period. I had the damascene blade and burl wood and buffalo horn scabbard added by Thai master craftsmen in Bangkok; these components are made with the highest quality materials available...
