Quirky and eclectic collection of 35 small repousse copper plaques or tokens. These were collected in Dali, Yunnan, China in the late 1980s. No two are exactly alike and seem to be influenced by Tantric Buddhism in that the endless knot, parasol, lotus throne, and temple banner motifs are represented in this lot as well as more traditional Chinese symbols such as bats and butterflies. In the last image I have shown a Qilin the only image in this group that has a hallmark. Sca...

Good Tang Dynasty gray clay brick depicting “Atlas” type figure seated on a lotus blossom I was in Taxila once and saw similar figures which to my mind illustrates the Greco/Roman influence in Tang art. The lotus shows indicates an obvious Buddhist connection. This is painted with “stucco”, and in good condition with no damage. W: 14.5cm/5.8in and H: 17.7cm/7in.
