One of a kind quirky Thai pangolin amulet carved from bone with Khon script signifying this has some spiritual meaning. I have never seen one these before- possibly used as knife in symbolic blood letting rituals where the shaman cuts out “evil” from his patient. Probably about 30 year old this is a lovely abstract interpretation of a Scaly Anteater. L: 13cm/5.2in.

Good monkey khik carved from wood, contrary to how I see these often advertised they, have little to do with attracting women, but are worn by on the side by men for luck and prosperity or used by women to ward odd “evil men” and attract money. The symbolism goes way back to Hindu mythology where the Shiva lingam represents primordial creative energy and the Monkey God Hanuman embodies courage and devotion. L: 5cm/2in. Unlike the cast metal types, this is a one off item, hand c...

Exceptionally fine and well detailed authentic votive terra cotta plaque from the Pagan Culture, Burma, 1200-1300CE. This is the only signed piece I have ever seen from this type of artifact. I acquired this along the Northern Thai/Burmese border around 15 years ago, at one time these were quite plentiful but I have not seen any authentic pieces for the past 5 years. Please note reference in last enlargement from “Ancient Art of Burma”. H: 9.5cm/ 3.8in and base W: 7cm/2.8in.

Wonderfully carved wooden Lanna Thai animal, the hole in the mouth and lightly incised symbol underneath the base indicate this was meant to be a “lucky charm” or fetish of sorts. H: 7.5cm/3in and W: 4.8cm/1.9in.

Rare phallic charm from Lamphun Northern Thailand- serendipitously enough, where they have an annual sausage festival. Originally these were worn by men at the waist and were thought to protect the wearer from any harm to his penis and in a more general sense they also are believed to bring luck especially in terms of “wealth generating or protection”, so a woman might keep one in her cash box to increase cash flow or purse to prevent it being “snatched”. These have their origins in the ...
