Rare and beautiful circa 6th CE thick cylindrical long cylider shaped Pre Khmer banded agate bead. I acquired this about 13 years ago in Thailand; at that time I was told it came out of Cambodia. Recently I came across a photo reference for this type of bead- Khmer Gold: Gifts for the Gods: Emma Bunker and Douglas Lateford, which identifies this as pre 6th century which would make it either Chenla or Funan Kingdoms, and excavated in Banteay Meanchy Province, Cambodia, which backs up the origin...

Collection of eight Dian Kingdom chalcedony “nipple beads” circa 400 BCE to 100 BCE. These button like ornaments were unique to this culture. These were used in decorating bronze buckles, funeral shrouds as well as clothing and strung as beads. The Dian were a fierce and independent kingdom living in the vicinity of Dianchi Lake in Yunnan Province which chronologically paralleled the Warring States and Han Dynasties, which was eventually annexed by the Han Emperor Wudi in 109 BCE. ...

Ensemble of 6 ancient hand cut glass beads from Sri Lanka. The green faceted ones have patina and have been excavated and probably about a 1000 years old (imformation on Sri Lankan old beads is scant so this is an educated guess). The cobalt ribbed beads are about 100 to 200 years old if not older. See enlargement for scale. Free shipping via Hong Registered Airmail.

Ensemble of very old beads, I found these in a small shop in Phrae, Northeast Thailand a few years ago. The green mottled beads are late Qing Dynasty Peking glass, the brown glass tapered tube bead emulating agate was probably made for the Funan or Chenla Kingdoms as I have agate beads from the same period which are pretty much identical, the white bead with orange splash is at least early Qing. The jewel in the crown, so to speak, is the roughly faceted blue glass Chinese eye bead w...
