Good woman’s skirt panel or apron from a Yunnan ethnic minority, approximately 50 to 70 years old. All the elements in this piece are hand made, even the ribbon along the border which is often machine made (even in old pieces). The beads along the edge are made of seeds. This piece has some old repairs which I have noted in enlargements. The overall embroidered pattern is a combination of white cotton while the greens and reds are either silk or a cotton and silk blend. This was origin...

Unusual collection of 6 old “prayer cloths” from a Taoist Master’s ceremonial robe (see last enlargement). For generic purpose’s these should be considered to be from the Mien group as they came from Vietnam and are circa 50 to 60 years old- woven from handspun cotton. They all have the same basic pattern indicating they are probably from the same priest’s outfit. These used to be quite easy to get about 15 years ago but now almost impossible to find. Early 20th century fragment of large Inner Mongolian rug with repetitive floral pattern on a grid. A very stunning piece, at least to me, I think it looks nicer without its original border. The double selvedge indicates the edges were done locally, in Baotou rather then somewhere else. Some brown discoloration in a couple of places, but no holes or other damage. L: 1.93m/6.3in and W: 67cm/26.5in.
