$450.USD

Rare vintage/antique Tibetan carpet with some writing (sorry I can’t translate). The pile is soft and shiny while the foundation is undyed wool warp and weft. The colored dyes are aniline and there is one area where the dye ran and one end has been had seamless reweave: both noted in the last two enlargements. It is difficult to date this piece given that all wool foundations usually date to the 19th century while aniline dyes became more prominent during the early 20th century ...click for details

~Sold~ $1100.USD

Rare three paneled Tibetan monastic runner carpet circa mid 19th century- all wool, warp, weft, and pile. The green and red key fret border sort of “pops” on this piece and it is made with all natural dyes. There are a few small holes but nothing egregious, fairly typical for rustically woven Tibet rug. The ends (5cm/2in) have been redone with old wool, as well as one repair in center panel- noted in enlargements and typical wear, where the monks would have sat. W: 71cm/29in and L: 195 ...click for details

Rare three paneled Tibetan Buddhist Temple monastic carpet woven in Ningxia circa 1920. The center medallions are Taoist Yin/Yang symbols on a key fret field bordered by a row of “jewels”. The ends appear to be original however the entire length of the rug has been rewoven on one side to the depth of 9cm/3.5in noted in enlargements. W: 69.5cm/27in and L: 195cm/77in.

$220.USD

Quirky ensemble of small Buddhas heads from Burma. I acquired these in Mae Sai about 15/20 years ago, along the Thai/Burmese border. The story I was told was that these were found during road building project near Pegu (Bago), which have I no reason to disbelieve. These may possibly be Mon but I am not sure, materially and stylistically they are dissimilar to one another. The center one seems to be made of a high density stucco or white ceramic while the two side pieces are sands ...click for details

Four old Taoist, Dao Gong priest’s wooden stamps representing Pan Hung (Dragon dog) who is considered to be the ancestor of the Yao/Mien ethnic group from Guangxi, Laos or Vietnam. These items are carved from wood, the larger one has a Chinese characters on the shoulder (which I assume was the owner’s name) and the one with a Tiger’s face has the Chinese character “wang”, meaning king carved into forehead. The smallest and probably the best has the owners’ name carved at the bottom. ...click for details

$450.USD

Quirky and eclectic collection of 35 small repousse copper plaques or tokens. These were collected in Dali, Yunnan, China in the late 1980s. No two are exactly alike and seem to be influenced by Tantric Buddhism in that the endless knot, parasol, lotus throne, and temple banner motifs are represented in this lot as well as more traditional Chinese symbols such as bats and butterflies. In the last image I have shown a Qilin the only image in this group that has a hallmark. Scale is enlargem ...click for details

Rare and complete Taoist ritual painting from the Yao/Mien ethnic group. Good bronze bowl from the Khmer culture circa 11th/12th CE.
