Gilt copper repousse head of a fierce Tibetan divine being. This was part of a much larger statue so it is difficult to specifically date and identify without seeing it in its original context, but is certainly an old piece 60 to 100 years or more. Possibly it was worn a necklace by a huge statue of a Yiddam or Dharmapala. H: 8cm/3.in. A perspex stand (H: 16cm/6.2) is included, but this not a custom made piece.

$450.USD

Nice old Tibetan rug with wool warp and weft. The knots are quite big which gives a pleasant folksy feel. There is one hole and a small tear on the side (noted in enlargements), the colors are muted and pastel, I am guessing this has a combination of aniline and natural dyes and would date this to late 19th/early 20th century. L: 148cm/58in and W: 87cm/34in.

Nice circa late 19th century seated Buddha with Bhumiparsa mudra and Pali or Devanagari dedication stippled on the base. This piece has detachable nimbus do I am assuming it is either Nepali or Indian origin. This is a very solid piece with a tangible “presence”. Total H: 15.2cm/6in.

Good pair of Tang Dynasty gray clay bricks depicting “Atlas” type figures seated on lotus flowers. I was in Taxila once and saw similar figures which to my mind illustrate the Greco/Roman influence in Tang art. The lotus shows indicates an obvious Buddhist connection. Both pieces are painted with “stucco” in good condition with no damage. W: 14.5cm/5.8in and H: 17.7cm/7in each.

Exceptionally fine and well detailed authentic votive terra cotta plaque from the Pagan Culture, Burma, 1200-1300CE. This is the only signed piece I have ever seen from this type of artifact. I acquired this along the Northern Thai/Burmese border around 15 years ago, at one time these were quite plentiful but I have not seen any authentic pieces for the past 5 years. Please note reference in last enlargement from “Ancient Art of Burma”. H: 9.5cm/ 3.8in and base W: 7cm/2.8in.

Two small bronze image of Annapurna; the Goddess of the hearth and food (as well a whacking big mountain named after her). She sits holding a ladle with which she feeds the world, with an unlimited amount of food. She is an incarnation of Parvati, the wife of Shiva. Annapurna symbolizes the divine aspect of nourishing care. Beautifully detailed image of Bhudevi. On the more mundane level she is the lover along with Shridevi another “consort” of Vishnu who is the Preserver in the Trimurti i.e. three aspects of Godhood. Brahma- God as Creator, Shiva -God as Destroyer are the other two, taken together they represent the cycle of existence. On the spiritual plane Bhudevi also is considered the Shakti of Vishnu which is to say she represents the manifested feminine power of Vishnu. Circa late 19th to early ...click for details

Ebony heartwood sculpture of Bodhidharma, known locally as Da Mo and Daruma in Japan, was Buddhist monk of possibly central Asian origin, who is said to have been the founder of the Chan (Zen) Buddhist sect in China as well as the Shaolin Kung Fu Monastery. I acquired this at a charity sale at a Buddhist church, raising money for scholarships to underprivileged students in China. This piece is very well carved. The pile is soft and shiny while the foundation is undyed wool warp and weft. The colored dyes are aniline and there is one area where the dye ran and one end has been had seamless reweave: both noted in the last two enlargements.
