Interesting set of six amber glass beads. These came out of Cambodia but are of Chinese manufacture and would date circa Song to Yuan (1000-1400CE) which coincides to the Khmer Empire when there was a lot of trade was carried on between these two kingdoms. I have two references for this kind of bead referring to them as to either Liao or Ming. These probably have a more prosaic function being buttons, but having said this are the only ones I have seen and given their fragility few ha ...click for details

$160.USD

Good long rectangular aventurine bangle from early central Thai Bronze Age Lopburi Culture circa 500 BC. There is some damage on one end, well documented in enlargements. Aventurine is commonly mistaken for Jade as it has the same degree of hardness (6.5 Mohs scale rating). This is really a lovely stone and may be worn as a pendent (free fauxsilk macraméd cord included) The hole that runs the length of the bead is obstructed, either packed with dirt or unfinished but I am not go ...click for details

Fine and rare Ming Dynasty, emulating white Jade, belt fastener made of glass. There are a few tiny chips but they are too small to photograph. Glass artifacts in good condition are more difficult to find than Jade given its fragility. In the center there is a “Shou”-Chinese longevity character, surrounded by cloud scrolls and a meander pattern on the perimeter. L: 6cm/2.3in and W: 4.6cm/1.8in. Rare strand of hexagonally faceted round beads from China. These have very large holes usually indicative of ancient workmanship. These were represented to me as Warring States, which is consistent about red agate and carnelian that have a long history of use in China particularly from the Warring States to Han Dynasty, where some really exquisite pieces were made. Having said this it is difficult to precisely date these as I do not have any references to this style of bead, but ju ...click for details

Exceptionally fine and rare proto celadon handled Ding, circa Western Han Dynasty (206BCE - 08CE). This piece has been in my possession for over twenty years, the only other ceramic I have seen in this glaze and clay was exhibited in the Beijing Place Museum in the early 1990s. There is one minor glaze chip noted in last enlargement, otherwise perfect condition and the glaze is stable. D: 16.5cm/6.5in and H: 10.cm/4.1in and L: (w/handle) 22cm/8.6in.

Nice strand of Kushan/Bactrian of mixed carnelian) beads. I acquired these along with coins dating 1st- 4th CE from the same site in North West Pakistan, so these can be dated no later than 1500 years old, having said this I have seen similar things dating as far back as 2000 BCE so these are probably much older and were traded down over the centuries. Strung on wire cable with screw type clasp. L: 45cm/17.8in.

Mysterious bronze handled knife with iron blade from Cambodia. Very quirky “dragon” handled knife with original bronze sheath bindings, this could possibly be a type of early “meed mor” (Thai magic knife), but to be honest I cannot find any references to this design and style although the pommel has an uncanny resemblance to “Knife with Dragon-Headed Handle, Ordos Type, 14th cent” in the Harvard Art Museum- just google this. A Khmer dating seems logical as this came out of Cambodia ...click for details

$470.USD

Rare incised decorative nephrite sword hilt from the Spring Autumn Period- 771-476 BCE. This piece is damaged so please examine enlargements carefully; of special note is the repair done on one side where a new piece of jade has been inserted and carved to match the original. This would make an excellent study piece to compare old techniques with the old. The lines in the new piece are lacking in strength and confidence that you find on an original piece, much like you would see on a forged ...click for details
