Fine pottery basin from the bronze age Ban Chiang culture, Thailand, circa 500 CE or earlier. This is the only Ban Chiang pot I have seen with absolutely no damage or restoration. There are traces of ochre pigment on the rim. Include are two smaller pots that were excavated in Suphanburi Province, Thailand and corresponding period. All three were not thrown a wheel but were potted by coiling the clay and then molding it by hand. The Ban Chiang piece is W: 20cm/8in and H: 8.3cm/3.2i ...click for details

Three very old stoneware jars. Left to right description and dimensions as follows: #1 Black stoneware jar from a Southern Kiln, possibly a Guangdong, i.e., Xicun or Bijiashan, probably Five Dynasties. The thin glaze and shape remind me of Tang, Changsha ware but wrong kind of clay. Some fritting on the rim. H: 8.8cm/3.4in and D: 6cm/2.5in. #2 Greenish glazed stone ware jar- most likely Tang but could be latter- there is a chip on the mouthrim H: 12cm/4.8in and D: 10cm/4.1, #3 B ...click for details

Fine and rare Tang or Sui Dynasty robustly potted, high fired , stoneware jar with yellowish green celadon glaze. Lovely gray pottery head of a woman from the Han Dynasty, Sichuan province. Early funerary art from Sichuan is quite distinct from the Han from the Central Plains of Shaanxi. In general Han Sichuan images show more emotion in their expressions and are far less abstract. Prior to their assimilation during the Qin Dynasty, Sichuan was composed of ethnically and politically separate non Han cultures. In my opinion this can be easily seen temperament and style of their art. This image i ...click for details

$300.USD

Rare Yue glazed, four lugged jar with attractive “iron” spot from the Western Jin Dynasty (265-420). This piece is fully glazed on the outside with some degradation on the inner mouthrim, having said this the glaze is stable with no fritting- there is one tiny chip on edge of mouthrim and a firing chip on the base, which I would deem insignificant on this type of piece. The concave bottom and lack of firing support marks are indicative that this was from a Northern Kiln, possibly Luoyang, Sh ...click for details

Ensemble of Thai Tok money from Northern Kingdom of Lanna. The largest coin Is D: 5.2cm and weighs approx 70 grams (according to my kitchen scale), and is hallmarked with two sets of concentric circle stamps, Chiang Mai 1615-1768. I tested this with an aqua regis kit and it has a high silver content of about 90%. The other two coins although with no hallmark appears to be the same and are approx 22mm each. The larger solid coin, D: 4.4cm appears to be “billon” with a lesser content o ...click for details

Rare Western Xia Kingdom, 1038 CE -1227 CE, jar with simple russet floral pattern and Xixia “tea dust” matte glaze with unglazed “bow string” bands on the circumference. From a historical perspective the Tanguts who founded the Xixia Kingdom have always posed a bit of a mystery since their civilization was leveled to the ground by Genghis Khan for a series of perceived betrayals on their part towards the Mongols, who were particularly unforgiving about this sort of thing.
