Large terra cotta impressed votive plaque from the ancient Thai Mon Dvararati Kingdom, of Haripunchai. This piece shows a strong affinity with Pagan and Burmese Mon votive tablets in the architectural style of the chedis and arched lintel over the Buddha’s head, however the face of the image is classic Haripunchai style and period circa 10/1tth CE. Ensemble of rare banded agate, dzi type, faience, glass, shell, and lapis, ceramic, and carnelian small beads. These were collected in Lahore, Pakistan in the 1980s by Bucklee Bell, ex Peter Francis bead research and collaborator to the Bead Project and Center for Bead Research. This is an eclectic collection of “Bronze Age” ancient beads from Central Asia- ideal for a study collection or the serious bead collector. Very rare early Tang Dynasty bronze vase. There is one repair noted in enlargement 5# where the previous owner had knocked an 8mm hole on the side, he kept the original chip and I simply glued it back in and covered the fracture with a bit of original bronze filings. This is covered in typical azurite verdigris- beneath the bronze is quite stable and thick so this might be able to be either manually or chemically or cleaned. H: 26.5cm/10.5in and D: 12cm/4.8in. $450.USD

Very rare and quirky phallic shaped small nephrite hairpin from the Ming Dynasty, the woman I bought this from referred to it as the “gao” (a crude Cantonese expression for penis- so it’s not just my imagination) jade. L: 8.3cm/3.2in. The last enlargement is a reference from Chinese Jade by Jessica Rawson and was found in a tomb near Shanghai. Excellent original condition with small naturally occurring inclusion at the back.

$400.USD

Fine and rare off white nephrite jade “curtain weight”. The Tang attribution is very conservative as this shape of jade has been recorded back as far as the Warring States Period (475BCE- 221BCE). Since there is no carving on it I have given it a later dating. This piece is very evenly cut at sharp angles and is polished on all sides. The condition is quite good with only a few tiny calcified “flea bites” in the stone. It has a holed drilled through the center and may be worn as a pe ...click for details

Quirky pendant with two holes most like used as a fastener. I don’t know what the stone is, it is not jade or agate (a little too soft). Probably quite ancient but I will guarantee it to be over100 years old. There is a Chinese character on the bottom but so far it has been undecipherable. L: 4cm/1.5in and W: 3cm/1.2in

Superb circa 6th CE long tapered tube shaped Pre Khmer banded agate bead, I acquired this about 13 years ago in Thailand; at that time I was told it came out of Cambodia. Recently I came across a photo reference for this type of bead- Khmer Gold: Gifts for the Gods: Emma Bunker and Douglas Lateford, which identifies this as pre 6th century which would make it either Chenla or Funan Kingdoms, and excavated in Banteay Meanchy Province, Cambodia, which backs up the original provenance. Good Dong Son culture bronze bell with bull’s face motif circa 200BCE - 200CE. A bit crusty but no restoration, the lugs on the side have long broken off. The little "clapper" ball is still there and will rattle if you give it a shake. Nice size as these are either much larger or smaller. D: 4cm/1.6in.
