Nice strand of Kushan/Bactrian of mixed carnelian) beads. I acquired these along with coins dating 1st- 4th CE from the same site in North West Pakistan, so these can be dated no later than 1500 years old, having said this I have seen similar things dating as far back as 2000 BCE so these are probably much older and were traded down over the centuries. Strung on wire cable with screw type clasp. L: 45cm/17.8in.

Mysterious bronze handled knife with iron blade from Cambodia. Very quirky “dragon” handled knife with original bronze sheath bindings, this could possibly be a type of early “meed mor” (Thai magic knife), but to be honest I cannot find any references to this design and style although the pommel has an uncanny resemblance to “Knife with Dragon-Headed Handle, Ordos Type, 14th cent” in the Harvard Art Museum- just google this. A Khmer dating seems logical as this came out of Cambodia ...click for details

Very fine etched authentic opalized fern wood bead from the Pyu culture, in what is now Burma who were loose group of Buddhist city states connected by the Irrawaddy River, circa 300 CE to 700 CE. The Chin people of Burma collected these and believed them to have protective powers. This is the last one from a reliable source I have been able to acquire, after this one I won't be able to get any more. Excellent condition. Reference -Early Landscapes of Myanmar: Elizabeth Moore. Rare incised decorative nephrite sword hilt from the Spring Autumn Period- 771-476 BCE. This piece is damaged so please examine enlargements carefully; of special note is the repair done on one side where a new piece of jade has been inserted and carved to match the original. This would make an excellent study piece to compare old techniques with the old. The lines in the new piece are lacking in strength and confidence that you find on an original piece, much like you would see on a forged ...click for details

A jumble of semi strung colorful Indo Pacific trade “seed” beads. I found these in Burma around 2003 near Pagan. Most would date around a thousand years old and would be considered Pyu/Pagan era and made of glass with a few which appear to be a kind of faïence. I had one strung and it is L: 72cm/28in. Total combined weight 100 grams. You should be able to get additional 4 to 5 strands of equal length from this lot. Ideal for a bead/jewelry designer or 1960s nostalgist.

$320.USD

Rare Yue glazed, four lugged jar with attractive “iron” spot from the Western Jin Dynasty (265-420). This piece is fully glazed on the outside with some degradation on the inner mouthrim, having said this the glaze is stable with no fritting- there is one tiny chip on edge of mouthrim and a firing chip on the base, which I would deem insignificant on this type of piece. The concave bottom and lack of firing support marks are indicative that this was from a Northern Kiln, possibly Luoyang ...click for details

~Sold to China, xie xie ni!~ $320.USD

Strand of beautiful old Chinese beads. References on Chinese glass is scant but I did find one with a similar spiral pattern dated to the mid Qing Dynasty (see last enlargement) circa 17th century. In my own personal opinion I think these are much older; probably earlier than Song- based on the color of blue. Anyway I will guarantee these to be at least Qing. Metric scale is enlargements. These are strung on an elastic cord and may be worn as a bracelet.

Two very rare carved turquoise toggles, circa Ming Dynasty (this is a conservative dating). The larger one is in the shape of the “endless knot”- shrivasta, a typical Buddhist symbol and the smaller one is of a flower. Turquoise has been used in China since early times, circa Shang Dynasty but mostly for inlay on bronze or beads. These have two holes each drilled through them suggesting they may have had a utilitarian purpose to them, such as some sort of binding fastener. Please note scale in ...click for details

Two chalcedony pendants circa Warring States to Han Dynasty. I have been told by knowledgeable jade collectors these used as curtain weights; please see last enlargement for referenced dating to at least Han Dynasty from Sparkling Splendours: The Taoshi Zhai Collection. There are a couple of inclusions in the smaller white one and some deep staining on the larger one indicating that this was buried with a metallic object for quite sometime. Scale is in enlargement 6. Both pieces have holes ...click for details
