Strand of Khmer glass beads circa 11th to 12th century. Generically classed as Indo Pacific Trade Beads, were probably not actually made in Cambodia but were traded to them. These are the only complete strand I have found in this translucent color, possibly they were trying to emulate carnelian. L: 60cm/24.6in

~Sold to the U.S., thanks a bunch!~ $400.USD

Superb circa 6th CE long tapered tube shaped Pre Khmer banded agate bead, I acquired this about 13 years ago in Thailand; at that time I was told it came out of Cambodia. Recently I came across a photo reference for this type of bead- Khmer Gold: Gifts for the Gods: Emma Bunker and Douglas Lateford, which identifies this as pre 6th century which would make it either Chenla or Funan Kingdoms, and excavated in Banteay Meanchy Province, Cambodia, which backs up the original provenance. Interesting set of six amber glass beads. These came out of Cambodia but are of Chinese manufacture and would date circa Song to Yuan (1000-1400CE) which coincides to the Khmer Empire when there was a lot of trade was carried on between these two kingdoms. I have two references for this kind of bead referring to them as to either Liao or Ming. These probably have a more prosaic function being buttons, but having said this are the only ones I have seen and given their fragility few ha ...click for details

Good long rectangular aventurine bangle from early central Thai Bronze Age Lopburi Culture circa 500 BC. There is some damage on one end, well documented in enlargements. Aventurine is commonly mistaken for Jade as it has the same degree of hardness (6.5 Mohs scale rating). This is really a lovely stone and may be worn as a pendent (free fauxsilk macraméd cord included) The hole that runs the length of the bead is obstructed, either packed with dirt or unfinished but I am not go ...click for details

~Sold to China, xie xie ni!~ $320.USD

Rare strand of hexagonally faceted round beads from China. These have very large holes usually indicative of ancient workmanship. These were represented to me as Warring States, which is consistent about red agate and carnelian that have a long history of use in China particularly from the Warring States to Han Dynasty, where some really exquisite pieces were made. Having said this it is difficult to precisely date these as I do not have any references to this style of bead, but judg ...click for details

Nice strand of Kushan/Bactrian of mixed carnelian) beads. I acquired these along with coins dating 1st- 4th CE from the same site in North West Pakistan, so these can be dated no later than 1500 years old, having said this I have seen similar things dating as far back as 2000 BCE so these are probably much older and were traded down over the centuries. Strung on wire cable with screw type clasp. L: 45cm/17.8in.

Exceptionally large and finely preserved, 11 band etched carnelian cylinder bead from the Pyu culture circa 300 CE to 700 CE. Describing this as a “military” bead is fairly apocryphal but seems to be the widely accepted term in bead collecting circles, and are said to indicate some sort of rank. I have two published references on these beads- Early Landscapes of Myanmar: Elizabeth Moore and Arts of Asia-Eyes on the Past: Samon and Pyu Beads in Myanmar: Elizabeth Moore and Terence Tam, vol. 3 ...click for details

A jumble of semi strung colorful Indo Pacific trade “seed” beads. I found these in Burma around 2003 near Pagan. Most would date around a thousand years old and would be considered Pyu/Pagan era and made of glass with a few which appear to be a kind of faïence. I had one strung and it is L: 72cm/28in. Total combined weight 100 grams. You should be able to get additional 4 to 5 strands of equal length from this lot. Ideal for a bead/jewelry designer or 1960s nostalgist.
