Rare Ming Dynasty, Cizhou porcelaneous polychrome, red and green overglazed baluster jar, circa 15th century from the Yuzhou Kiln, Henan China. Excellent condition, original glaze (not retouched as is often the case with this ware), no damage and classic Ming phoenix pattern. Please note last enlargement for reference is from a Chinese publication- Ming Dai Cizhou Yao Ciqi. The green glaze has acquired some silver patina- typical of an old lead based green glaze. Exceptionally fine and rare celadon glazed vase from the early Qing. The “brown wash” inside the footrim is typical of Qianlong and guaranteed to be of this period or earlier. Please observe the close up of the inside of the mouthrim to see the normal wear of copper rim which is a much softer substance than the porcelain glaze, I am not sure if this is a repair or the way it was originally made. H: 28.7cm/11.2in and D: 17cm/6.7in.

Exceptionally fine, blue and white, Kangxi reign (1662-1722) censer with two dragons motif. This piece has been dipped in a white slip, presumably to give the body a smooth even surface prior to application of the glaze. The effect is quite subtle, adding depth and substance to the glaze. I purchased this piece from an old Hong Kong collection and was told that it is a Transitional- Shunzi reign (1644-1661) item. The clay underneath the slip and glaze is pure white and the dragons are depi ...click for details
