Shan Lacquered Sword
Exceptionally fine and rare circa early 20th CE, “Dha” from the Tai Yong subgroup in Lamphun, Province Thailand. Aside from a few chips and scrapes on surface (please note the finely plaited bamboo wrapping on the handle under the several layers of lacquer) this piece is in fine condition with a good well honed steel blade. The pommel is capped with silver and the traditional tasseled rope belt on a rubber sleeve was probably replaced around 40 to 50 years ago. Total length with scabbard: 81.5cm/32in, blade length: 59cm/23in and handle length: 21cm/8.2in.
