Rare circa 18th CE Qing Dynasty “brush shaper” with Ge type glaze and deep inset footrim. The shallow and rimless surface would allow the calligrapher or painter to shape the tip of their brush into a fine point for detailed work. There is a partial hairline crack in footrim that does not go through the body- noted in enlargements, otherwise good condition. This piece is high fired with a porcelaneous glaze, but does not have a bell like tone when tapped possibly fired in Fujian rather than Jingdezhen. D: 14.5cm/5.7in and H: 2.5cm.
