| Exceptionally rare provincial standing Buddha with both hands pointing down “calling for rain” mudra, I have only ever seen 4 of these for sale in Thailand and this one is the best example. Nan was a remote semi autonomous Kingdom until it was incorporated into the greater Thai nation in the 1930s, the pose shows some affinity to Lao and Lanna, but this eclectic style with long arms and thin body is only to seen in Nan images. This statue dates to 1950 there is repair to the ear and a minor chip on the nose tip. This piece obviously would have appeal to specialist collector of Buddhist Iconography or Southeast Asian Ethnographic Art. H: 33cm/13in. | ||||||||||
