Exceptionally rare classic Sukhothai kingdom (1238 CE-1438 CE) stucco head of the Buddha applied on brick. From a Thai perspective Sukhothai represents the foundation of the Thai national identity as well as their Golden Age of Art and Culture. This piece appears to have had an of the period restoration on the face; evidenced by the remnants of the unisha above the forehead. Stucco is not a particularly robust material so repairs and touch ups would have been an ongoing process in any active religious site. Condition as may be viewed in photos and comes mounted on perspex stand. H: 13cm/5in and mounted H: 17cm/6.8in.
