Fine Qing Dynasty nephrite carving of an archaic stone chime, most likely this would have been part of larger jewelry ensemble. Chinese stone chimes "lithophone" have been dated as far back the 500BCE. This piece is purely ornamental and will not play a tune but is a frequent auspicious symbol portrayed in Chinese embroideries, jewelry etc and is considered one of the Eight Taoist Treasures, the Chinese name for the chime is pronounced Qing in Pinyin and is a homonym "to congratulate". Good stone with no chips cracks etc., excellent condition, L: 4.5cm/1.8in
