Interesting old Burmese/Shan hand written book on handmade Saa (mulberry pulp paper). There are 12 pages between the covers- most of these books are usually related to either Buddhist studies or shaman rituals, but as I can’t find anyone who can read this it is being sold as a fine example of calligraphy. All the materials are handmade from the string binding the pages together to the charcoal ink. In this day of ideas being conveyed on a keyboard, back then one really had to think before they put pen to paper. This is in good condition with no rips or tears- there are some smudges and stains and a few notes in the margins that look to be written with a ball point pen and a bit of scribbling (most likely done by a child) on the last page. Each page is actually a page folded over in two. I would date this first half 20th century. L: 29.5cm/11.6in and W: 23.5cm/9.2in.
