price: Sold to France, Merci. $650.USD/$5000.HKD
description: Ming Buddha marked and dated 7th year of the reign of the Ming Emperor Hongzhi (circa 1495 CE) of the period. This image possesses a gentle and compassionate expression, which is very unusual for a Chinese Buddha. The inscription on the back states that a local patron had this made as a temple donation. Condition: there is a hole in the torso revealing ceramic core, some of the “beading” work is missing on the top of the base and the back of the base is dented- all these defects are clearly visible from the photos, it is lightly cast with a good “black” patina. What makes this statue unique besides it’s lovely face is the dated inscription which is extremely rare. Dimensions: 27cm/10.6in height and 15cm/5.9in width at the bottom of the base.
