Longquan Jarlet
stock number: 0376
price: ~Sold to Sweden~ $500.USD/$3900.HKD
description: Extremely rare small Yuan guan shaped jarlet with Longquan glaze emulating the Guan glaze. A similarly glazed piece is pictured in the Chinese publication, "Zhejiang Chronological Porcelain" and is dated 1259 (Southern Song)but as this shape became more prominent during the Yuan, I have dated it to this period. Very finely potted with lovely turquoise blue glaze. In many years of collecting this only the second example I have seen of this glaze and the only blue Longquan I have seen. There are two old small hairline cracks running off the rim. There are a myriad of tiny bubbles in the glaze which are only visible with a strong hand lens which is entirely consistant with kiln shards I have examined from the Longquan kins. Dimensions: 5.4cm/2.2in height, 7.7cm/3in width and 4cm/1.5in diameter at footrim. Please note that the cracks depicted in the photos of inside of the jar itself are surface glaze cracks and are one of the natural characteristics of this glaze.
