description: Very rare Song Dynasty black glazed bowl with traces of original silver leaf. After firing a lacquer design would have been painted and layer of silver leaf laid on it. Although it doesn’t show very well in the photos, a lacquer pattern consisting of is a five petaled floral medallion in the center, four Chinese characters on the side as well as fine fines radiating from the center perhaps emulating a hare’s fur, which would have been all originallly in silver This is clearly visible when viewed in person. Most likely from the Wuyi Shan kilns in Fujian province. No chips or cracks. Dimensions: 11.5cm/4.5in width and 4.8cm/1.8cm height.
