Tang Dyansty Jun Glazed Jar

stock number: 0516

price: ~sold ~$2500.USD/$19000.HKD

description: Tang Dynasty Jar with suffused "Jun" type glaze. Very rare Tang stoneware Jar possibly from the early Yaozhou kilns. The body is composed of a dense heavy, light gray clay covered with a vitreous glaze and extensive "Jun" type splashes. The only published reference I ever of this kind jar was an advertisement in Arts of Asia magazine. The pattern of the crazing on the glaze resembles a Sancai glaze suggesting that this most likely a Shanxi piece rather than a Lushan or Huangdao glazed item from Henan, which was more well known for it’s suffused glaze ceramics. There are two areas of restoration on the rim where there were two chipped areas that were filled and painted to match the glaze. I have noted one in smaller photos, there is one unrestored chip on the base, which may be seen in photos as well- the glaze itself is in outstanding condition. This truly a one of a kind piece. Dimensions: 16cm/6.3in height and 17cm/6.7in.
