description: Sungkit style weave Iban vest from Sarawak, Malaysia. This item was sourced in 1974 by a private collector and has signs of original wear so I put this at around 40 years old. This is made from a single length of cloth woven on typical backstrap loom and fastened under the armholes with pieces “store bought” cloth. Very unusual pattern with metal threads woven into the cloth and small metal discs attached to beadwork fringes. A few tiny holes and minor fraying at spots along the edge but overall in excellent condition for an older tribal textile. Dimensions: 45cm/17.8 length and 43cm/16.9in width (not including fringe) on the back.
