| Outstanding Li women’s sarong. The Li people are found only on Hainan Island, China’s southern most province. Li textiles are much sought after because of their uniqueness in design and inventive weaving techniques. Please note that the blue and white pattern on this piece superficially resembles a “resist style” tie dyed ikat design, but in reality is woven into the fabric. This item is circa 50 years old. All materials and dyes are natural and hand made. The skirt consists of 5 separately woven panels sewn together with one panel having 80% of its surface covered with silk embroidery; the cloth itself is made from hemp and or hemp/cotton combination of handspun thread. Condition: perfect! Dimensions: 97cm/38.2in length and 64cm./25.2in width (for total surface area than multiply this by 2). | |||||||||
