Warring States pottery cup
stock number: 1046
price: $160.USD/$1100.HKD
description:
Fine little high fired pottery cup from the Early Warring States period, Zhejiang Province. This has an impressed linen cloth pattern and was made simply by pressing the clay into the cloth and molding it by hand to the desired shape. Please note the finger impressions inside in the enlargements; you can even make out traces of human fingerprints if you look inside along the top. Very thinly potted almost to an “eggshell” thinness and gives off a porcelain-like ring when tapped. There are a few very small chips and the body is compressed also noted in enlargements. It is possible the oval shape was intentional to make for easy pouring. H: 6.5cm/2.5in height and D: 9cm/3.5in at widest point
