price: $600.USD/$4600.HKD
description:
Early Late period circa 1770-1820 CE Laotian provincial style Buddha, with deeply incised floral pattern on the base. This is a unique one of kind piece, more than likely cast by a village craftsman as a personal votive image. Although classic Buddhist Art exudes a feeling of elegance and serenity, Lao folk images awaken a sense of humanity in these otherwise aloof and detached sculptures. When observing this piece, at first he seems somewhat stern but when you look at his face you will notice he has a very relaxed expression and when viewing the image from the side he leans back as if preparing to doze off, perhaps to a Lao village farmer of the time, Nirvana is a rest from toil of working his fields. Nice reddish patina with bits of green in excellent condition. H: 16.cm/6.2in and base W: 6.5cm/2.5in.
