Xixia jar
stock number: 1287
price: $1200.USD/$9300.HKD
description:
Extremely rare Xixia Kingdom, 1038 CE -1227 CE, Cizhou jar with simple floral pattern. From a historical perspective the Tanguts who founded the Xixia Kingdom have always posed a bit of a mystery since their civilization was leveled to the ground by Genghis Khan for a series of perceived betrayals on their part towards the Mongols, who were particularly unforgiving about this sort of thing. This also accounts lack of artifacts from this group. There is one kiln flaw on the side where it came into contact with another piece during firing (noted in enlargements), otherwise perfect original condition. H: 30cm/11.8in and D: 21cm/8.2.
