Fine old Burmese lacquerware box in the shape of a pumpkin. Old pumpkin boxes are and have been for quite some time very rare. This piece is approximately 60 to 80 years old. I purchased this piece in the Chiang Mai Night Market, Thailand in 1988, when it was still possible to find old genuine pieces. It is unfortunate that so many pieces being offered on the internet as being 19th to early 20th century when they are only 20 to 30 years old. There is some restoration and repair noted in the last two enlargements which to be expected and almost “de rigueur” for any authentically old Burmese lacquer piece. D: 21cm/8in and H: 15cm/6in.
