Fine and rare pale green translucent nephrite jade Bi with incised scroll and abstract design, circa Yuan to Ming Dynasties. This piece seeks to emulate earlier Warring States/Han style. One side of the jade has been cut at a slant and the incised pattern on it is original and not an old recarving trying to cover any damage as the surface patina of the slanted edge is identical to the rest of the piece. The portions of dark brown surface (skin) and inclusions appear to be original stone and not a treated “stain” while the light rust colored inclusions in the piece are naturally induced by centuries of contact with other substances. There are few small chips on the slanted edge as well as inclusions, viewable in enlargements. This piece is highly recommended for the knowledgeable collector. Diameter is 5.7cm/2.3in and thickness 7mm/0.25in.
