Fine and rare Chinese greenstone- most likely serpentine, perforated disc. This piece is possibly Liangzhu culture -2500 BCE as the shape is slightly compressed, and the outer diameter was cut vertically and then ground down to approximate a circular shape, is consistent with Liangzhu carving techniques, but this is just an observation on my part- I will guarantee this piece to be at least three to four thousand years old. The hole is drilled on one side only, please observe enlargement three to see the worn grooves on the inner diameter’s surface, which is typical of ancient jade carving. There is some translucence to the stone which I have noted in the last enlargement. This stone is quite hard but will scratch if gouged with stainless steel which is why I tend to think it is serpentine rather than nephrite. Having said this, such pieces are included in the classic; “Chinese Jade - From the Neolithic to Qing” by Jessica Rawson. This is quite thick and has that fine subtle texture that gives pleasure when handled one only encounters in really old stone .Average -D: 9.8cm/3.9in and thickness varies from 6mm to 3mm.
