Black glazed bottle
stock number: 1853
price: $250.USD/$1900.HKD
description:
Fine shiny black glazed Cizhou type bottle with three elegantly shaped lugs. Both the Schatzman Collection and Mowery “Partridge Feathers etc” books have similarly glazed examples with Jin/Yuan datings, but in my opinion this piece is Qing possibly quite late. Please note, these black glazed “rustic wares” were the “coke bottles” of their day i.e., mass produced and did not change much in style or materials other than they tended to become lighter in weight with thinner walls and narrower rims into the Qing. I have seen black wares with Yuan/Ming glaze and shapes still being fired in Chinese rural kilns to this day. This piece is in perfect original condition although not fully glazed inside. H: 19.5cm/7.8in and D: 17cm/6.6in.
