Jian ware black bowl
stock number: 1904
price: $1500.USD/$11,000.HKD
description:
Outstanding Southern Song, Jian ware (possibly from the Wuyi Shan kiln) Fujian tea bowl with a near black body and glaze. There is one tiny and shallow undetectable chip on the rim but have not been able to find it since having it repaired, and some spots where the glaze did not adhere during firing. There are feint “ghost” traces of lacquer as may best be observed in the center of cavetto in last enlargement as “spots” as well as lines radiating from the center in places emulating hare’s fur which would have been either silver or gold leaf, overall the original impression would have been of drinking out of a lotus flower. D: 10.7cm/4.2in and H: 5.4cm/2.1in.
