Lao Bronze Buddha (1520-1777ce)
stock number: 0001
price: Sold, to California. Have a nice day!
description: The ‘Early Era of the Late Period’ 1520-1777 is described as the “ the Golden Age of Lao Buddhas” by Somkiart Lopetcharat in his excellent book “LAO BUDDHA: The Image and it’s History”. This wonderful Lao Buddha represents the distillation of the Lao theme of innocence and simplicity in Buddhist art. After 1777, the Lao Buddhist image acquired a distinctly Thai appearance when the Thai annexed the independent Lao Kingdoms. This Buddha is in excellent condition with a fine green patina, there are no repairs and damage is limited to two small fingernail impressions on the torso that were probably incurred prior to casting during the coverage of wax over the core. Dimensions: 18.2cm x 10.8cm at base, 25.6cm height, 9.8 cm width at shoulder. This image was sourced in Chiang Mai, Thailand in November 2000./Buddhas
