Liao white bowl
stock number: 1914
price: $430.USD/$3300.HKD
description:
Exceedingly rare Liao Dynasty (967CE – 1125CE) peony shaped bowl stand with clear green tinted glaze. Liao ceramics are often problematic in identifying because of the often shifting and porous political boundaries in Northern China at the time as well as the fact that Han trade items were found in Liao tombs. Having said this, this piece is typically Liao in terms of the coarse high fired clay and light olive tone to the glaze. Very unique is the large size of this piece and rolled footrim. There is damage on this piece i.e., badly chipped footrim, chip on one of the petals as well as two hairlines in the bowl holder all noted in enlargements and reflected in the price of this piece. Obviuosly this item is for the specialist collector of early white wares or connoisseur of Liao ceramics. D: 16.5cm/6.5 and H: 6.5cm/2.2in.
