Jian ware bowl
stock number: 1932
price: $250.USD/$1900.HKD
description:
Fine shallow black glazed bowl with hare’s fur highlights, from a Fujian kiln, Song Dynasty. A few of these came onto the Hong Kong market about 10 years ago and then six years later a large number suddenly arrived, and just as suddenly were bought up and consequently disappeared. I am not 100% sure these are from the Jianyang kilns but feel certain they are from a Fujian Provincial kiln. Literature on the more obscure kiln of Southern China is scant. This piece is in excellent original condition- just needs a good cleaning, to remove the hard caked burial film accretion. This is one of a number of these beautiful pieces I have “hoarded” over the years. Interesting is that no two are exactly the same, and come in a variety of Jian temokku color combinations. D: 12.2cm/4.9in and H: 4/5cm/1.8in.
