Fine and rare brown glazed ewer from the Jizhou, kilns in Jiangxi. This piece is high fired and the clay is of a porcelaneous quality. There are no cracks, repairs or chips (even on the spout). It is from an old Hong Kong collection and was professionally cleaned several years ago, although there are a few small spots on the bottom of side where the glaze has fritted off, there has been no application of lacquer or varnish put on the surface and the glaze is stable. Many of the Jizhou pieces now on the market are heavily restored with some sort of varnish and often cobbled together with footrims from other pieces and/or artificially enhanced patterns. H: 16.7/6.6in and D: 10cm/3.9in.
