description: Very quirky bronze folk Buddha image, sort of “cubist” style. Difficult to date as it has no iconographical features other than the lovely silly grin that is found in almost all Lao village made pieces, from the condition of the bronze I have no problem putting this piece 19th CE or much earlier. This has no finial atop the head, if it did it broke off a long time ago, both hands are in depicted in the bhumiparsa mudra which is highly unusual and rarely (if ever) seen in classical Buddhist art- definitely a one of a kind! H: 7cm/2.8in and W: 4.2cm/1.8in.
