| Exceptionally fine and rare “soy brown” bottle with beautiful iron oxide almost “oil plash” patina. The potter was emulating Northern Song Ding wares in the shape and glaze, but basically I would describe this piece as being a generic Cizhou type. Similar pieces in this specific glaze with a wide footrim, have been found at the Mutou Yinnzishang Site, Shakenzi, Nei Mongol (Inner Mongolia) Southeast of Chifeng bordering Liaoning province, and are dated to Liao (907 CE -1125 CE)- see reference photo in last enlargement. There are a few bubble bursts pits on the surface. Aside from a possible retouch of a tiny exposed area of the stoneware body on the mouthrim (the only way to tell if this is restoration is to scrape at it with a sharp stainless steel blade), this piece is in perfect condition. Obviously for the specialist collector! H: 15cm/6in and D: 11.5cm/4.5in. | |||||||||||||
