Yao Shaman’s stamp
stock number: 2107
price: $250.USD/$1900.HKD
description:
Fine old Dao Gong priest’s wooden stamp representing Pan Hung (Dragon dog) who is considered to be the ancestor of the Yao/Mien ethnic group. This item is carved from hardwood with Chinese characters on the bottom (which I assume was the owner’s name), and was passed over paintings and religious books during ceremonies by the Yao/Mien priest. This piece came from Northwest Vietnam and is circa 50 to 70 years old. Old and authentic Yao shaman’s paraphernalia has become nearly impossible to find these days so the rarity is reflected in the price of this item. I have a complete (albeit bug damaged and too big to photograph and upload) 10 meter “Bridge Painting” dated to the reign of Xiangfeng 1851-1861 plus a few other “odds and ends”, if there are any serious collectors of this stuff feel free to contact me. L: 8.4cm/3.3in.
