Nice old storage basket from the Lahu ethic group, Northern Thailand. This has a tough double layered weave with the outer wall made from rattan and the inner wall of bamboo strips. Lahu baskets are held in high regard by the other tribes in the area and were sold or traded to them. This is a genuine old tribal piece and not a tourist piece made for the home décor market. Acquired in 1990, and has been in storage since them a reasonable estimate on age would be 40 to 50 years old. . H: 43cm/17in (W: 40cm/16in x 20cm/8in). Excellent condition except for a frayed edge on the top (cannot be seen when the lid is closed), noted in enlargements
