Two rare Burmese/Shan small betel containers, 60 to 100 years old with “ku-nan kan byat” patterns and original inner trays. Genuine antique Burmese lacquer is almost impossible to find these days; I picked the larger one up in a small shop Luang Prabang, Laos in 1998. H: 8.7cm/3.4in and W: 10.2cm/4in, and the smaller one, H: 6.7cm/2.7in and D: 7.7cm/3in, in Chiang Mai this year. These have some old repairs, as well as a pleasing craclature typical of antique Burmese lacquer.

A collection of 3 green glazed “kiln wasters” from an unknown Burmese kiln, I acquired these on recent trip to Thailand- the dealer, who I might add is extremely knowledgeable on Southeast Asian ceramics, said they were found in Burma and not from the Tak Hilltop Burial site, where all the Burmese ceramics I have seen have come from. Warped and damaged- what you see is what you get quite decorative as a set. I would date these 14th to 16th centuries...

Eighteen bead strand of quartz crystal. These were excavated from the Tak Hilltop Burial Site in along the Thai Burmese border, and can be dated at least to the 14th century due to the ceramics found in the same strata. I am however of the opinion these are much earlier probably at least 1500 years old or more as similar pieces are found in the Neolithic/Bronze Age Lopburi Sites. These are strung on an expandable elastic string with an interior circumference of 17cm/6.8in...

Good Turkmen Tekke “Bukhara” carpet. This piece has a few tiny holes that can’t be seen when lying on the floor and minor repairs. The kilim head ends are missing but over all very a very pretty rug with an intricate design and very supple weave and soft wool. Circa 1920, L: 160cm/63in and W: 110cm/43in.

Rare Yue glazed, four lugged jar with attractive “iron” spot from the Western Jin Dynasty (265-420). This piece is fully glazed on the outside with some degradation on the inner mouthrim annd shoulder, having said this the glaze is stable with no fritting- there is one tiny chip on edge of mouthrim and a firing chip on the base, which I would deem insignificant on this type of piece...

Complete set of horse/donkey bags circa late 19th to early 20th century. Please see enlargements: the flat weave edge on panel is missing and the central panel has about 4cm missing on each horizontal side (see enlargements again). Please note the last two photos show the inside and original colors. I reckon you could put these on the back of your motorcycle as saddle bags. L: 136cm/53in and W: 56cm/22in.

Alabaster Shan Buddha circa 18th century. This has been left out in the sun and rain for the past 10 years so the surface has begun to degrade (a good lesson in the Buddhist fundamental of Anicca: the impermanence of all things). The head has been reattached. The base is hollow: the only example I have ever seen with this. H: 27cm/10.6in and W: 11cm/4.2in.

Nice old pre war shop sign from Hong Kong. The characters read Yuan Sheng Tai. It has been suggested to me this from a rice shop, although I am not sure- I am assuming the characters refer to the name of the owner. Very heavy hard wood, weighs about 8kg. H: 98cm/38.5in and W: 44cm/7.2in one chip on upper right hand corner. Lovely old Hong Mu wood with nice grain.
