Buddhist grey pottery “lotus petal” offering jar circa 1200- 1300CE with Chinese Zodiac, human figures and vajra impressed pattern. Excellent condition, no damage. This is from the independent Dali Kingdom which was centered in Yunnan Province. These were not used as “bone ash” reliquaries but were found in connection with tombs sometimes containing small offerings such as beads, gilt bronze objects or bits of paper with writing. Good early 20 the century Miao wedding blanket from Antai area, Guangxi Zhuang, China. The base is made from all handspun cotton with silk and cotton warp embroidered geometrical floral pattern and swastika meander at lower border, the entire piece is framed in a handspun indigo border (possibly original). I acquired these along with coins dating from 1st- 4th CE from the same site in North West Pakistan, so these can be dated no later than 1500 years old. Very rare Han Dynasty four bodied Ding. The main part was made all in one pouring of the lost “wax casting method” which is a testament to their skill and technique. Encrusted with heavy azurite and malachite verdigris- aside from a couple of small holes is intact, there is no breakage. The entire piece has a diagonal Width: 30cm/11.8in.
