Rare Buddhist votive terra cotta plaque, circa 10th, or earlier. Very interesting iconography with the Buddha seated on a lotus supported by two Brahma (Nandi) bulls and central Ganesha head. So far I have not found any references to similar piece, so this could be a one of a kind...

Good strand of quartz crystal beads (and a few carnelians) excavated from the Tak Burial site near. Mae Sot along the Thai/Burmese border. Artifacts from this dig are from 14th/16th CE due to datable ceramics that were found in the same strata, but having said this, these are much older, as similar beads and have been found in the Ban Chiang and Lopburi (Bronze Age sites) and have been traded in the region for at least 2000 years...

Unusual “pile” of old glass cylinder beads picked up in Mae Sot, Thailand along the Burmese border about 10 years ago. These are from Burma and were probably meant for Victorian Era, British colonials who used them for beaded curtains. I assuming these are of Bohemian, Czech manufacture but am certain that they are old- circa late 19th/early 20th century. There are 20 strands with around 20, 8cm beads per strand and total length of 1.75cm/5ft9in ea, i.e. about 400 beads...

Genuine antique Shan lacquer box circa late 19thCE. Most Burmese lacquer being offered on the internet purported to be antique are vintage at best and new at worst. I acquired this in Yunnan, China along the Burmese border but of Shan (nationality in China). Although there is some damage the craftsmanship is exquisite which is why I put a grain of sand in a couple of the images to put the work into perspective...

Very rare late 19th- to early 20th CE storage basket from the Bidayuh people of Sarawak. The lid is made from the skin of a sambar deer while the basket plaiting is all rattan with some bamboo slats on one side as a cushion; also the basket is lined inside with peeled wood. There are a few very minor repairs and holes here and there but overall I would consider this piece in very good condition given its age and environment. H: 57cm/22.5in and top D: 31cm/12.2in.

A collection of 3 green glazed “kiln wasters” from an unknown Burmese kiln, I acquired these on recent trip to Thailand- the dealer, who I might add is extremely knowledgeable on Southeast Asian ceramics, said they were found in Burma and not from the Tak Hilltop Burial site, where all the Burmese ceramics I have seen have come from. Warped and damaged- what you see is what you get quite decorative as a set. I would date these 14th to 16th centuries...

Alabaster Shan Buddha circa 18th century. This has been left out in the sun and rain for the past 10 years so the surface has begun to degrade (a good lesson in the Buddhist fundamental of Anicca: the impermanence of all things). The head has been reattached. The base is hollow: the only example I have ever seen with this. H: 27cm/10.6in and W: 11cm/4.2in.
