Cambodian Textile: Special Collector’s Offer- reduced from $800 to $400: Rare antique silk Khmer ikat lower garment. H: 90cm/35.5in L: 2.1m/7ft10in. with a twill weave; unique among Southeast Asian textiles. The size of this piece indicates it would have been worn by an upper class family much like a pantaloon with center being passed through the legs and tucked into the waist. This is a very old style and may be observed on the bas relief friezes in Angkor Wat. I bought this piece about 18 years ago in the “Russian Market”, Phnom Pehn. Please note the complexity and fine detail of the design, this dates to the 19th century and this is the oldest one I have ever found. There are numerous small holes through out. A very delicate piece which should be conserved someone who will understand an appreciate it. It is painstakingly hand stitched and framed in an old Chinese commercial cotton fabric.
