Nice old persimmon shaped water dropper from Korea with bamboo motif. As I am unfamiliar with Korean ceramics I will date and guarantee this to be “vintage” (pre 1980s) but possibly 19th century. It shows definite signs of wear and normal usage and the white glaze shows a depth that I have seen in Qing and Ming Chinese porcelain. I have priced this low so there may be bargain here for a knowledgeable collector of Korean wares. D: 7.4cm/2.9in and H: 5.4cm/2.1in...

Elephants, tigers and snakes oh my! Very decorative hand woven cotton blanket from the Naga people in Burma. I bought this piece around 1997 up in Mae Sai along the Thai/Burmese border. This appears to be naturally dyed and the condition is excellent. W: 99cm/39in and L: 164cm/5.4ft

Two bolts of P'ulo-thigma wool cloth. I bought these in the Bakor market outside the Jokang Temple in Lhasa in 1996. The one with the crosses is hand woven wool with some aniline dye. The crosses look to have been stamped on (dimensions: 18ft x 8.5in). The one with the circles is also handwoven wool, probably natural dye and the round medallions have been resist wax (tie dyed) on in the traditional fashion (dimensions: 16ft x 9.in)...

Very fine old wool pangden cloth- all hand spun wool and mostly natural dyes. This piece is an exceptionally large piece consisting of 5 panels, circa 40 to 50 years old. The weave is quite tight and heavy and would make an excellent small blanket or throw rug. In the past these were worn by married women, but these days they are a fashion accoutrement for the modern Tibetan girl...

Rare and unusual shallow bowls enclosed in pewter. The original blank dishes were imported from Japan and then decorated in Hong Kong. By the 1980s this trade died out due to rising property costs as well as the transitioning of the Hong Kong manufacturing sector to China. This pair is in excellent condition and perfectly matched with floral panels and medallions. These are also the only examples I have seen jacketed in pewter. D: 17cm/6.9in and H: 4cm/1.6in. Dated to 1970’s.

Nice old pair of Sino Tibetan burlwood bowls, circa late Qing Dynasty and Tibetan Yak Butter Tea bowl carved from burlwood, possibly Rhododendron circa 50 to 100 years old. Colorful hand woven beaded shoulder cloth from the Batak people, Sumatra. Fine and rare old rattan “tali” basket with a contracted mouth from the Idu Mishmi ethnic group of Arunachal Pradesh, India. In India they are primarily animist but in China where they are known as the Lhoba they have a strong spiritual affiliations with Tibetan Buddhism. Nice old small shoulder bag with fine silk cross stitch embroidery from the Akha hilltribe in Northern Thailand. This piece was purchased in Chiang Mai in the early 1980s and was an old piece at the time so a good estimate on the age would 50 to 60 years old. Please note this is not a patchwork tourist piece which is recognizable by different bits quilted together and having zippers etc...

Good Iban woman’s kain depicting tree of life with bamboo running the length of the bidang reaching above the forest canopy, circa 1950s. Aside from commercial warp thread on sides, it is composed of all natural dyes and handspun thread. There are the inevitable few pin holes and a few small tears on one side (this indicates where the skirt has been taken in to have a better fit on the waist). L: 188cm/46.5in and W: 51cm/20in

Magnificent all rattan hand woven Rawang “san phi” basket, from the remote Putao area in Northern Burma near the Tibetan border. This one is quite old circa 50- 80 years, in good condition (one repaired loop), still pliable and not brittle, with excellent natural patina. The Rawang are a subgroup of the Kachin people and live in some of the last great wilderness forests left in Burma. Arts of Asia 2007: Vol 37, #3, by Michael Howard has a good article on Rawang crafts...

Fine and rare Minangkabau song bird trap. I bought this in the old Dutch hill station of Bukittinggi Sumatra, Indonesia in 1988 and it was old then, so a circa 60 years old is a reasonable attribution as far as age goes. The Minangkabau are a matrilineal ethnic group from West Sumatra and Malaysia i.e. the women inherit the property rather than the men and this group plays an important current role in Indonesian politics...

Nice old Thai sticky rice “lunch box” in Lanna or Issan style. This is about 30 or 40 tears old with typical double wall construction. There are areas that have been lovingly repaired with some nylon cord. To the purist this may be seen as a distraction but I see time and an ethic where nothing was ever wasted- this was a valued very personal object...

Wonderful old “farmer’s lunchbox” from Northern Thailand, used for carrying sticky rice to the fields for hard day’s work. This is probably about 50 years old possibly more, with a classic double wall construction. The contracted rim at the mouth is quite unusual and it is the only time I have seen this. In excellent condition it is made from split bamboo with the original natural fiber cord. H: 20cm/8in and W: 20cm/8in.
