80.00 Quirky big round ball of green glass; possibly sand cast- this would have been used to make a Buddha image, from Lanna culture, Northern Thailand. In the 1950s the Japanese started exporting mold cast glass images to Thailand and Laos so this practice died out around then. There is a Buddha in there waiting to be realized. Looks like one of moons of Jupiter. Weight 210grams D: 5.5cm/2.2in.

Tibetan Buddhist “windhorse” woodblock with loads of auspicious symbols (trigrams, dorjes etc) for printing small prayer flags about 40 to 50 years old, still perfectly usable (I’ve thought of making cards with this but never got around to it). The “wind horse” has its origins the earlier Bon folk religion but has been incorporated to Tantric art for the past couple of hundred years. I’ve researched few of interpretations of this symbol, which are quite complex so suf...

The ends (5cm/2in) have been redone with old wool, as well as one repair in center panel- noted in enlargements and typical wear, where the monks would have sat. W: 71cm/29in and ...

Rare Buddhist votive terra cotta plaque, circa 10th, or earlier. Very interesting iconography with the Buddha seated on a lotus supported by two Brahma (Nandi) bulls and central Ganesha head. So far I have not found any references to similar piece, so this could be a one of a kind. The inclusion of Hindu deities, suggest that this may have a Pala influence He is surrounded by a dotted nimbus on his torso, with a flaming one around his head, seated beneath a Bo tree Condition as pictured, the...

Large, circa 18th century lacquered Shan Jambupati (royal attire) Buddha, from the Amarapura period (1789-1853). (see last three images for 18CE examples). Ebony heartwood sculpture of Bodhidharma, known locally as Da Mo and Daruma in Japan. He was Buddhist monk of possibly central Asian origin, who is said to have been the founder of the Chan (Zen) Buddhist sect in China as well as the Shaolin Kung Fu Monastery. I acquired this at a charity sale at a Buddhist church, raising money for scholarships to underprivileged students in China. This piece is very well carved. If you follow the grain of the wood you can see where this is incorporat...
